You have multiple opportunities for a career at Mercy. We hire new graduates and newly licensed RNs in many of our clinical areas. Mercy's Nurse Residency program is here to help you successfully transition into your new nursing role. You will receive one-on-one mentoring by a knowledgeable and experienced nurse. We tailor the program to meet your individual needs so you gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful nurse!

How do I apply?
- You’re welcome to apply online on our Careers Site at any time during your last semester of nursing school.
- If you have not yet graduated, please note your expected graduation date in the Education section of the application.
- Please allow 30 - 45 minutes to complete the application and another 30 - 45 minutes to take the Talent Online Assessment (TOA). The assessment must be completed for your application to be considered. You will only take this assessment one time, no matter how many positions you apply for in the future.
- You should receive a response from a member of our recruitment team within 1-week to discuss next steps if selected to move forward.
What title do I search for entry level nursing positions?
- RN, New Graduate*
Please only apply to positions to which you meet the MINIMUM qualifications. If “years of experience” is not specified in the minimum qualifications, you can apply to that position.
What should I expect after I apply?
- We will contact you if you are selected to start the interview process. Your top three areas of interest will be discussed at the time of the interview. New nurses will have an opportunity to rotate through several areas of interest to determine the best fit as a new Mercy nurse.
- Please allow 2 - 4 weeks for the interview process. We appreciate your patience as we review all applicants.
- Once you’ve submitted your application, you can log back into the application system on our Careers Site at any time to learn the status of your application.

Mercy Scholarship Programs
The Mercy Scholarship Program is open to both internal and external applicants, providing awards for students of nursing and other approved health-care programs. Interested in the Mercy Scholarship program? Please carefully review the individual programs and eligibility requirements.
Submission Checklist:
- Completed online application (internal applicants complete transfer request)
- School document confirming acceptance or enrollment in good standing
- Current official transcript with grade verification (minimum of a 2.5 GPA)
- A total of 2 reference letters from any of the following: instructor, manager or supervisor
- Essay stating objectives, goals, purpose and motivation for applying for this scholarship
Summer Student Nurse Extern Program
The Mercy Hospital Joplin’s Summer Student Nurse Extern Program offers nursing students with at least 2 semesters of nursing school, the opportunity to gain valuable clinical knowledge and skills through temporary summer employment. The program supports the student nurse's professional development as it provides a skill development with an RN Mentor that works closely with the Student Nurse Extern (SNE) in a supportive environment. The Student Nurse Extern Program is held during the months of June and July. It offers a variety of clinical areas in which to perform nursing duties.

Med Surg Student Nurse Internship
Program Objectives:
- Mercy’s Student Nurse Internship positions for nursing students in their last semester
- Med Surg Internships are available to RN students interested in a career in Med Surg at Mercy Joplin in their last semester of school
- Train 1 shift a week in a paid SNT position, 8 - 12 hours, with a Med Surg preceptor during the summer and fall semester
- Successful participants will be offered a GN position in Med Surg
Highlights & Benefits to Nursing Students:

- Increase knowledge of assessing and interventions for critical changes in patient condition

Program Objectives:
- Mercy’s Student Nurse Internship positions for seniors in their last semester of school
- ED and ICU Internships are available to RN students interested in a career in Emergency or Critical Care at Mercy Joplin
- Train 1 shift a week in a paid position, 8 - 12 hours, with an ED or ICU preceptor during your last semester
- Successful participants will be offered a GN position in ED or ICU
